Family Photography That Feels Like Home

Honest and heartfelt family photography for parents who cherish the real moments

Emotive, timeless images without awkward poses or forced smiles

You want photos that feel like your family. Full of life, personality, quirks, chaos, tenderness, inside jokes, quiet moments, routines, and rituals. Everything that truly makes your family yours and your photographs should honour all of that.

If you’re craving images that are real and meaningful, rather than staged or stiff, you’re in the right place. You don’t need to force smiles, wear matching outfits, do something you’d not normally do, or create a version of your family that doesn’t actually exist.

You will get genuine stories and authentic memories to remember the gestures, the personalities, the connections, the emotions. The way life felt.

Real Stories for Today and the Future

Your children, and future generations, will one day look back at these photographs to understand what life felt like growing up. It’s a gift for your future selves.

You deserve albums full of joy, warmth, imperfection, and truth. Photos that remind you not just what your family looked like, but how deeply you love one another. That’s exactly what I’m here to help you hold onto.

Who this is for?

You want real, heartfelt photos that capture your life exactly as it is: chaotic, tender, playful, and full of personality.
You appreciate having everyone included in the images. This also means seeing yourself in your family images, so your children have memories of you in them.
You’re looking for images that will become heirlooms for your children and future generations.
You enjoy a relaxed, fun, and natural experience where your family can just be yourselves.
You feel your kids are growing and changing too fast, and you want to hold onto what life feels like right now.
You prefer wearing whatever feels like “you,” without the pressure of matching outfits or looking perfect.
You want someone who’s great with even the most reluctant participant (grown-ups included!).

This isn’t for you if:

You want perfectly posed, colour-coordinated, “picture-perfect” images where everyone smiles or looks at the camera. And if that’s what you’d like then that’s completely okay. It just means I’m not the right photographer for you.

If this feels like you, let’s create something special together:

FAQs

Booking a photographer or filmmaker can bring up questions. Here are a few I’m often asked.

  • What if my child doesn’t “behave”?

There’s no such thing as “doesn’t behave” in my book! Trust me, I’ve seen it all (yes, my own kids have bitten, shouted, and thrown themselves on the floor). I capture real family life and that means all emotions are welcome. Tantrums, tears, grumpiness, they’re all part of normal family life and are beautiful in themselves, and can be great in revealing relationships and personalities.

Because my sessions are documentary, children aren’t being forced into poses or awkward setups, so they’re actually more relaxed and likely to enjoy themselves — and so are you as the parent, knowing you don’t have to make them do anything.

  • Can grandparents, other family members, or pets join the session?

Absolutely! I love multi-generational shoots, and pets are, of course, part of your family too. Everyone who’s important to you is welcome.

  • When and where will our family photo/film sessions take place?

Your session can happen anywhere and anytime, depending on what your family does while I’m there. It can be at home, outdoors, or a mix of both. With sessions starting from 3 hours, we usually have time to capture both indoor and outdoor moments.

  • Can we also have a few traditional family portraits?

Absolutely! I’m happy to spend 10 minutes capturing a few traditional portraits alongside your documentary session.

  • I’m worried that my home is too small/dark/messy for photos. Can you still take photographs in my home

Your home is where your life happens, and it’s a big part of your family’s story. I love photographing families in their own spaces because it’s where you feel comfortable and surrounded by memories and personal items. Small rooms, low light, or everyday clutter are absolutely no problem.  For more reasons why at-home sessions are amazing, check out my full article: At-Home Family Photo Session.

  • What if my partner isn’t keen on photos?

I completely understand, being photographed can feel daunting for many people. It’s not unusual for partners to feel shy, awkward, or unsure about being in front of the camera.

With my documentary approach, there’s no posing or performing, so your partner can be themselves with the people they love. That approach truly makes all the difference! So many families I’ve worked with had one reluctant partner,  and they are the ones who often end up loving the experience and the results the most.

  • What’s the advantage of choosing documentary family photography in comparison to other photography styles?

Documentary family photography fits seamlessly into your real life. No schedule changes, no awkward posing, no forced smiles, and no need for special outfits. You can just be yourselves. The photos capture personalities, relationships, and real emotions, giving your kids a record of life as it really was, surrounded by the people who love them. Images that make you say, “That’s us!”

Plus, these photos let you time travel! Looking back at them will transport you straight to these moments… and who wouldn’t want that superpower?
